Chairperson GA6

Hello Delegates,

It's good to back to Chair another MUN in Delhi and I cannot wait for it! Symbiosis is one of the premier institutions in India and as a law school simulating a legal council would obviously turn all the heads to look for a council filled with future legal scholars or future attorneys.

Unlike other councils where law is just a part of their debate, our committee will revolve around law in all the sessions. I'm not saying dedicate 24/7 for your research like one would do for a moot (yes,I haven't slept in the longest time) but I expect smart research from all of you. I first thought on the lines of contemporary issues of international law, then I realized we could broaden the scope by having the agenda as legality of drones, which would interest the non law students to take up this council as well.

Whatever said and done, I promise you two days of excellent debate and fun too!

President, UNSC (Barack Obama)

Hello Delegates,

It is my pleasure to invite you to the United States National Security Council. Being a part of the simulation of the most powerful National SC is always something to rejoice. It is not just about power but this is the only committee where true policy making and its implementation maybe observed. And within the constructs of this JCC, the practicality and the true essence of the committee will be put into function. Also, with a common ultimate objective in mind, it will not just be about competition but about co-existance, not only between the delegates but between the committees as well.

The crisis in itself will be a one which would make you use your rationality and your spontaneity to the greatest.  And with the responsibility of the nation's integrity resting upon you, the role-play gets enhanced to give you the authentic feel of the US Decision making process.

We would be releasing the portfolio of each member of the Council and the preparation would be largely based on the same. This committee is more about role-play, than any conventional MUN committee. Even the executive board would be more involved in the debate rather than being isolated from the same.

I hope to see you all being a part of the US National Security Council and to what maybe the most innovative JCC idea that the country has ever observed.

Regards

G.S. Chaitanya

Vice President- United Nations Futuristic Security Council,

Dear Delegates,

Friedrich Nietzsche once said “The future influences the present just as much as the past”. As individuals living in the 21st century and the internet age who keep in touch with current affairs, we often tend to ask our self “how will this particular development impact the future?”. The actions or the measures taken by the apex body of the United Nations : the Security Council (and by extension the United Nations as a whole ) change the course of international affairs, diplomatic relations and the world geopolitical scenario.

While the UNSC is a conventional MUN committee, it being set in the future will offer a new experience to all delegates whether experienced or novice. It is my firm belief that analyzing and debating upon the ramifications or long term results of current international developments in a future setting will be an enthralling experience for all delegates. This committee while testing your knowledge of Model United Nations, international affairs as well crisis management and lobbying skills also promises to be an unforgettable and enjoyable learning experience. Please do not hesitate to contact me or the President for any substantive or procedural clarifications.

Regards,
Pranav Sahni

Vice-President USSOCOM

"Dear Delegates,
An MUN's objective is to provide every participant, in whatever capacity, a wholesome experience, be it debating, organisation, writing, negotiation, public speaking, editing, or a hands on experience at journalism for that matter. Here, in the USSOCOM, we hope to provide just that, albeit within the operational framework of SYM-MUN 2012.

With most MUNs nowadays working towards the much-wanted tag line of being the harbingers of 'change', the USSOCOM per se, shall fulfill just that. From giving delegates an opportunity to peek into a single nations' defence structure, utilising the same structure in a real-time situation, role-play and crisis-simulations, the USSOCOM has a lot in store.

Needless to say, the stage that shall truly test your abilities, and a stage that speaks of 'revolution'... Is set.

Kindly do not hesitate to contact me for any clarifications - substantive, or procedural.

All the very best.

Regards,
Vinayak Rajesekhar,
Vice-President
USSOCOM."

President-FSC

Dear Delegates,

Firstly, I would like to welcome all the delegates to the future. We are in 2017 and contrary to the reports there was no life ending event in the December 2012 or any other time. We are still alive, aliens haven't killed us yet and Nuclear weapons are still waiting for their opportunity to shine. Instead of animals, human race is the scariest lot not knowing when their own actions will lead to their downfall.

Secondly, the good news. We are still alive. Be a part of this committee to live your future as this committee is being simulated at a time when you all will be representatives in reality facing the challenges of world head on. You will be in an actual MUN without the M.

Thirdly, don't treat this committee as an advanced or an experienced delegates only committee. We encourage all the fist timers as well as hundredth timers to apply for this committee. We aspire for a perfect balance.

Fourthly, we won't be coming out with the background guide till the very last week before the conference. We'll be releasing updates on the website and on the facebook group. In the end, the background guide will just give you the updates in a consolidated form and some research we'll try and keep the future as real as possible.

Lastly, in HIMYM, they still don't know who the mother is, in The Big Bang Theory, Penny is married to Sheldon Cooper, Leonard is still single and Rajesh Koothrappali and Howard Wolowitz have come out of the closet. But luckily the world leaders know where their countries heading (so we hope) and respect for human rights (Be it gender equality or homosexuality) is on the rise.

May the force be with you.

Regards

President-USSOCOM speaks..

Dear Delegates,

Welcome to the first ever simulation of USSOCOM in ANY MUN that has ever been simulated and with a crisis situation that will test your knowledge and your skills of Model United Nations. Moreover the structure of this particular Joint Crisis Cabinet will be test to a lot of people as it has a very different way of functioning as it takes into account the workings of the other committee and makes it's decision accordingly and vice versa - with both committees having the common ultimate objective.

We hope to see an overwhelming participation from various delegates. This is one committee that will test you on research, maneuvering, warfare, internal political understanding, and debate. Hope to see all of you in good spirit.

Regards,
President

Address from the Secretary General

Our Secretary General speaks (Not that she is quiet always but yes)

So, going back to the time where I was the Under Secretary General for our first Intra MUN, I developed not just the organizational skills but also saw a lot more dimensions which are attached with an MUN, let it be pre conference or post conference. All of us worked hand in hand to make sure we don’t skip a step and fall flat, we had an entire team backing us up and making sure that we don’t lose the confidence & the faith they had in us.

We successfully pulled it off and there started another relationship, we had made friends and enemies, we knew the strength of our team members and we knew their weaknesses too.

In the second year of our college’s inception, we were now out with Intra SYM-MUN’2 which had just become bigger and better; we had an elaborate team with us this time for our juniors had joined the league. From 2 committees we now moved on to 4, from Executive Board to International Press, everything turned out to be better than we had planned. From Under Secretary General I had now become the Deputy Secretary General, yes sentiments attached.

During the closing ceremony, we had a mixed feeling, we were happy that we managed to cater to all the expectations and we were sad because this continued journey came to an end. We wouldn't be allowed to have photoshoots, we won’t be given attendance for missing classes, and we will not be able to sit & deliberate upon the pros and cons of all the options and feel important in college administration. (Pun indented)

Then while I was on my way to Chennai for SRM-MUN’12 I came up with the basic concept & planning for SYM-MUN’12. Discussed with a couple of friends and formed the first draft which was accepted after months of corrections and thinking. We now had to decide the team & keeping in mind the first two intra editions we wanted a team as hardworking as in the prior ventures, we laid the first signatures on that sheet of paper where the entire organizing committee decided to give in all what they have for this MUN because it wasn’t just another MUN, it was SYM-MUN’12.

After facing a few crises with regards to our team, the new additions, the replacements, new idea’s being implemented, a whole new structure was laid down and we were now back in action. The facebook page was created & we started conducting meetings, the Executive Board was selected, the Press Delegation was sorted out, we started expanding our horizons and here we are, infront of you all, with a new vision set straight in our head.

You might just think we have no surprises planned but wait till you get here & see it with your own eyes because somebody once told me “Actions speak louder than words”.

Stay tuned with us to know what’s next.

Our Senior Advisor Speaks

Our Senior Advisor Speaks:

SYM-MUN’1
So it all started on 24th December 2010, when Nikita Arora got us an invite for GLCMUN 2011, a MUN I had attended before, a MUN I was excited to go as a part of SLS, Noida.
We Went. We Conquered.

Mayank Agrawal got a honourable mention and the team was happy.

Myself, Aadya Dube , Varun Taneja and Shreya Seth were a part of the team too. Now that the college knew what an MUN was, I with the Help of Palash and Aadya approached our respected Director and got ourselves to prepare for the first intra MUN. Sym-mun, a name I coined is a part of me, and will always be.

Getting Purvasha on board and also the best guests and the Executive Board members, it was all seen.

SYM-MUN’2

Our juniors the second batch of our college joined us in the league, inculcating MUN had become a habit. This time I was not in the organizing committee, but was a member of the Executive Board. Mayank headed this endeavour with Purvasha and Palash Backing him up. The Press, an integral part was looked after by Aadya.

After the success of two intra MUNS, and after a lot of discussions with Purvasha, a proposal was sent, accepted, and here we are, in front of everyone.

THE CORE COMMITTEE for SYM-MUN'12:

Secretary General: Purvasha Mansharamani
